Tech Jobs in State dwindle : Pain felt everywhere

Gujjuchaps is a yahoo group for IT Jobseekers and employers that offers free job postings to employers and is boasting a membership of nearly 15,000 subscribers growing at 15% y-o-y. This data reflects the impact of slowdown. The slowdown is so steep that you can notice nearly 60% fewer job posts in December 2008 compared to December 2007. These same trends are across the board and even worse in many other Industries.
When you look at December 2008 numbers compared to December numbers of last 5 years, you will still see 40% reduction in job opportunities. Over last few years, many job seekers from outside Gujarat have moved in the state and are working in various companies. Also we have added lot more engineering seats and there is a wider talent pool available. But where are the jobs?
Over last 6 months, Gujarat SME IT Sector has been laying off people. Many companies have reduced as much as 40% of their workforce. Considering that India's population is growth rate with fresh talent unemployed across the state, the situation is really grim. Many experts say that this recession is going to last for at least 6 years and 2009 will be a year that everyone would want to forget.
January 2009 data looks even worse. This image was taken on January 12th and you can certainly be assured that there are worse times to come. Corporates should try and save every penny they can to save their employee's jobs as long as they could.
